The Corps Marshal, Federal Rod Safety Corps, Boboye Oyeyemi, has condemned acts of violence against personnel of the FRSC on official duty.

He also warned miscreants against removal or defacing of road signs, saying the act ran contrary to the spirit of humanity and collective responsibility in traffic management.

Oyeyemi stated this while declaring open a two-week pre-hospital trauma life support training for FRSC officers in Abuja.

A statement by the Head, Media Relations and Strategy, FRSC, Bisi Kazeem, on Tuesday quoted the corps marshal as saying that the agency would ensure that the perpetrators of the dastardly acts were punished in line with the law of the land to serve as deterrent to others.

The corps marshal said vandalising traffic signs by some hoodlums either through defacing with posters or total removal of the signs could deny drivers of the opportunity of being guided while on the road.

This, he said, “increases the rate of road traffic crashes at such places where vital information provided by such signs could have assisted the drivers in taking appropriate actions to avert crashes.”

The FRSC boss also called for public support to avert negative practices against the FRSC personnel and destruction of road infrastructure in the collective efforts to restore sanity on the nation’s roads.

Oyeyemi said the life support training for the FRSC officers was held under the sponsorship of the Safe Corridor Project of the Federal Roads Development Programme of the World Bank.

He added that the training was in continuation of the capacity building initiatives of the FRSC, stressing that it was designed to expose the patrol personnel to modern techniques of safe crash victims handling.

The corps marshal commended the World Bank for its support to the FRSC and the successes recorded through its Safe Corridor Project over the years.
