- Kano to Adopt Lagos Waste Management Mode
The management of the Kano State Refuse Management and Sanitation Board has revealed plans to replicate the Lagos Waste Management Authority’s model in the state.
This was made known recently when the management of REMASAB paid a two-day working visit to LAWMA to have a first-hand knowledge of its waste management strategy.
The Managing Director, REMASAB, Mr. Muhammed Adamu, was quoted as saying in a statement that the decision to visit LAWMA was informed by the success stories it had recorded in the sector over the years.
He said REMASAB was working towards replicating in Kano some of the systems LAWMA had successfully adopted.
The Executive Chairman, LAWMA, Mr. Olumuyiwa Adejokun, said effective waste management in a city was important.
He said the business of waste management was capital intensive, which made it necessary for the government to engage private investors.
The General Manager, LAWMA, Mr. Segun Adeniji, said the daily increase in Lagos population had a direct effect on the volume of waste being generated and that the state was working to reform the sector.
Highpoint of the visit was the tour of LAWMA facilities, including landfill sites, engineering sections and Transfer Loading Stations, by the REMASAB team.
