- Experts Seek Global Best Practices in Building Construction
Fellows of the Nigerian Institute of Building have called on professionals in the built environment to embrace global best practices in performing their duties.
A past President of the NIOB and former Special Adviser to the President on Budget Monitoring and Price Intelligence, Prof. Kunle Wahab, said this would enable builders to deliver more ground-breaking projects.
Wahab and others who spoke at the meeting of the College of Fellows, NIOB Lagos State Chapter, said builders in the country must continue to demonstrate high level of professional conducts.
The Chairman, Lagos chapter of the institute, Mrs.Adenike Said, noted that the Fellows must also continue to promote professionalism in the sector through continuous interaction.
“As members of the College of Fellows, we must continue to play our active roles by contributing ideas and suggestions that will boost professionalism and the development of the practise among members, as well as mentor the young and upcoming professionals on the ethics of the profession,” she added.
The Chairman, College of Fellows, NIOB, Mrs.Adebolanle Araba, said the past achievements of the college had contributed to the practice of building and that members needed to have proper carriage as proud professionals with a sense of fulfilment and satisfaction on their jobs.
Araba stated, “Likewise, as Fellows, it’s important that we train upcoming professionals on quality job delivery and ensure that they abide by the professional code of conduct of builders.
“To achieve this, members of the College of Fellows are expected to hold periodic retreats to formulate strategic plans for advocating and establishing mentoring programmes in education, vocational training, leadership and practice for members.”
The First National President of the institute, Mr. Fatai Osikoya, advised members that the building profession, having recorded several milestones over the years, had come of age and that members should continue to uphold the conduct and values that made the NIOB an exemplary model among sundry professional bodies in the building and construction industry.
Osikoya commended the body for having a good number of women as practising builders, adding that the college was proud to also have the women section.
