Operators of the Contributory Pension Scheme have said they plan to register 250,000 people when the micro pension scheme commences.

The Head, Micro Pensions Department, National Pension Commission, Polycarp Anyanwu, said this while making a presentation on the topic, ‘Understanding micro pension scheme: Features, prospects and expectations’.

“The sector is targeting 250,000 contributors to enrol within six months,” he said.

He said the operators were targeting the self-employed in various trades and professions in Nigeria such as the artisans, accountants, lawyers, mechanics, tailors, market men and women, hairdressers, architects and engineers.

According to him, the micro pension scheme is the offshoot of the pension industry’s five-year strategic plan to expand the coverage of the CPS to 20 million contributors by 2019.
