  • Kenya Airways Threatens to Stop Ticket Sales on Strike Notice

Kenya Airways will discontinue ticket sales unless a pilots’ union calls off a seven-day strike notice issued earlier this week, the loss-making airline said.

The Kenya Airline Pilots Association, or KALPA, is demanding the resignation of the national carrier’s Chief Executive Officer Mbuvi Ngunze and Chairman Dennis Awori.

“If KALPA does not forthwith retract its statement, Kenya Airways will have to immediately stop selling tickets on its network, given the costs associated with selling tickets and not carrying these passengers,” the airline said in an e-mailed statement from the capital, Nairobi.

Similar industrial action in April cost the airline $2 million in a single day, the airline said.
