N150.8b Spent on Education Projects in Nine Years
The Federal Government yesterday said it spent N150.8 billion on education projects under the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) from 2006 to 2015.
The government also said it released N1 billion to tackle mass illiteracy within the same period.
Coordinator of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Programme in the Federal Ministry of Education Hajia Khadijat Liman spoke during a presentation at a task team implementation meeting on SDGs in Abuja, yesterday.
According to her, the interventions on education, under the MDGs, which transited to SDGs in December 2015, include training of teachers, construction of toilets/boreholes in Unity schools, among others.
Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu, said the meeting was convened to review the implementation of SDGs in line with objectives of the Federal Government.
Adamu warned that the Education Ministry would no longer condone any form of irregularities in the implementation of SDGs projects.
He stated that all projects executed by the ministry would be subjected to rigorous monitoring.
The minister blamed the lack of implementation of projects on absence of discipline, non-adherence to procurement processes and poor execution of projects.
