The Lagos State Government is in search of a permanent site for the annual Lagos International Trade Fair.

Governor Akinwunmi Ambode disclosed this during the celebration of the Lagos State Day as part of activities marking the end of the trade fair on Sunday.

Ambode, whose speech was delivered the Deputy Governor, Dr. Oluranti Adebule, said although the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry had been conducting successful fair over the years, it was being inhibited by lack of purpose-built and world standard exhibition facilities that would facilitate the staging of a more befitting international trade fair.

He said, “Our government is already looking in that direction and making concerted efforts towards delivering a standard international convention and exhibition centre in the state.

“In the same vein, we shall place priority on the provision of key infrastructure that will make our state safe, secure, functional and productive through a highly motivated and vibrant private sector.”

In her opening remarks, the President, LCCI, Dr. Nike Akande, lauded the efforts of the governor in making Lagos the pride of Africa.

She said, as a state that was projected to have a population of 30 million people and Gross Domestic Product of $355bn by 2025, Lagos had become a state of endless possibilities.

“Today, Lagos State hosts several large and small industries, and remains the commercial hub of Nigeria. The Lagos State Government is a worthy partner in progress and I am confident that this will continue to be so,” Akande stated.

She added that the fair had been successful in spite of the limitations of the business environment and the state of the economy.

“The Nigerian business community and foreign investors have again demonstrated confidence in the Nigerian economy,” she stated.
