  • Anthony Joshua to Face Alexander Povetkin at Wembley Stadium Today

British-Nigerian, Anthony Joshua returns to Wembley today to face Russian Alexander Povetkin.

Joshua, who holds WBA Super, IBF, WBO, and IBO belts, will be risking it all tonight against former title challenger Povetkin.

Povetkin,39, lost just once in his career to Wladimir Klitschko and was scheduled to face Deontay Wilder before he tested positive to a ban substance, Meldonium.

Povetkin is one of the most decorated Russian heavyweights and won a Gold medal at the 2004 Summer Olympic in Athens, Greece.

With over 130 amateur and 35 professional fights, Povetkin poses a threat to the undefeated and unified heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua with just 43 amateur and 21 professional fights.

Joshua, 28, is expected to use his youthfulness, height and reach to neutralize Povetkin’s counterpunch and make a statement after his two last fights failed to end in a knockout.

If Anthony Joshua wins today, he will be expected to face American Champion Deontay Wilder in April at the same stadium.

Laycon Biography, Family and Health Issue

Olamilekan Agbeleshe, popularly known as Laycon, is one of the participants of Big Brother Naija (BBNaija) Season 5 reality TV show, tagged Lockdown.

Born on November 8, 1993 in Lagos to a police father, Laycon has managed to up his fan base from slightly above 3,000 to over 1 million while still in the house, making him the first housemate to do so.

Here is a detailed Laycon BBnaija biography.

Laycon Education and Work History

Laycon graduated from the University of Lagos with a Bachelor degree in Philosophy. He graduated with a second-class upper and interned with Latjum Global Nigeria Limited, an oil and gas marketing company in Lagos, as a personal assistant to the Chief Executive Director and Managing Director of the company.

After his internship, Laycon worked at Bestman Games, a leading games company based in Ikoyi, Lagos, for just two months before joining Lagos State Ministry of Information and Strategy as a personal Assistant Director (Welfare) of Administration and Human Resources of the ministry. On the side, he was working as a freelance writer for numerous firms and organisations.

Laycon, the Music Artist

Laycon started singing in the University and has performed on local talent shows organised in school and across Lagos. However, he was not a well-known name despite been signed to Fierce Nation Entertainment where he released one of his now trending songs, Fierce, in which he featured Chinko Ekun and Reminisce. According to the soon-to-be winner of BBNaija, he enrolled in BBNaija to promote his brand as an artist.

Laycon Family

There are several mysteries surrounding his family and upbringing given his limited exposure up until now, however, there were unconfirmed reports that his father died of cancer after years of struggle and hiding his health challenges from his family to protect them from the usual emotional trauma.

In a long goodbye message to his dad before BBNaija, Laycon said his dad should look after his mother, who is obviously struggling with his absence among others.

He said “but look after mum please, help me to take care of her, please. I really need you to come through for me. If you need to go meet God or Allah or Whoever is up there to beg, go do it pleas.”

Health Issue

In a shocking revelation this week, Laycon revealed that he is a sickle cell carrier with SC genotype but liked to keep it away from the public as he does not want to be pitied.

The revelation brought a new dimension to the already growing fan base as fans and other stakeholders were shocked given his tenacity and efforts at breaking out despite his obvious limitations.

Also, his fans believed Laycon might have told Erica, a disqualified housemate, about his health status at some point when they were still friends, hence why she said he will die before he turned 50 years old. “This one that will die before 50 years,” she said.

Sandra, a fan who tweeted @Pelomstar, said “putting all the pieces together and it makes so much sense now!!! I questioned why Erica said “you will die before 50″ that night to Laycon, I thought it was just alcohol. Laycon you are a warrior!!!.”

Another fan said “He really understands his nature, that explains why he is always on hoodie and joggers. He is damn consistent with that outfit.

Unyime Abasi said “Laycon wouldn’t let the SC genotype thing killed his aspirations -Always on hoodie and joggers with socks every night –Oh Lord, keep him.

“This is the inner confident and courage that every Nigerian needs to strive and not give up on dreams.”

Laycon BBNaija Evaluation

Laycon came into the house as an underdog with little to no fan base even with several good songs that are now trending and intelligence that differs money and beauty being pushed by other housemates. However, it did not take long before Nigerians start falling in love with his intelligence, calmness and dedication to tasks despite some housemates’ body shaming him or seeing him as zero threat because of his skinny nature.

While in the house, Laycon won several tasks with trips to London, Dubai, Scotland, etc and on scheduled to perform at Afronation alongside Burnaboy, Wizkid, Davido and other Nigerian top artists billed to perform later this year in Portugal.

Laycon fans across social media have grown from slightly above 3,000 to over 2 million on Instagram, Facebook and twitter. The number is expected to jump once he wins on Sunday, tomorrow.

Emirates Airline

Emirates Airlines is engaging the Federal Government on a flight ban extended to the Middle East carrier this week.

The carrier said it has opened lines of communication with the Ministry of Aviation towards resolving the impasse insisting that it will give updates on the progress of the talks between the two countries.

The Federal Government at the weekend withdrew approval given to a Emirates Airlines to fly into Nigeria from yesterday.

In a reaction, the carrier said it was still committed to serving its teeming customers on the two Nigerian routes, Lagos and Abuja, to meeting the growing demand for air travel in and out of the country.

“Emirates remains committed to serving its two Nigerian points, Abuja and Lagos, to connect our customers to and through Dubai to Emirates’ global network, and meet the growing demand for air travel in and out of the country. Emirates is working closely with the UAE and Nigerian authorities, and will communicate any updates to our customers. We look forward to continue serving our customers in Nigeria.”

The Federal Government withdraw the approval to the airline following the refusal of United Arab Emirates (UAE) government to lift visa ban on Nigerians. The decision by the government was in compliance with its threat to reciprocate any maltreatment of Nigerians or her carriers by any country or their airline.

Aviation Minister, Senator Hadi Sirika, who made this known, said, the decision to revoke the approval was arrived at after a meeting with the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 to review the status of foreign carriers operating into Nigeria.

“The PTF Sub-committee met with EU Ambassadors to discuss Lufthansa, Air France/KLM ban.

The meeting progressed well. Emirates Airlines’s situation was reviewed and they are consequently included in the list of those not approved, with effect from Monday, September 21, 2020.”

Besides, Emirates Airlines, another carrier African World Airways (AWA) from Accra, Ghana, has also been denied approval to fly into Nigeria.

The Ghanaian carrier sources said was banned by government on account of recent developments in Ghana where Nigerian trader were maltreated.

South Africans Marched to the Nigerian Embassy, Demand Deportation of Illegal Immigrants

A group of South African protesters on Tuesday marched to the Nigerian embassy in Pretoria to demand an end to the influx of Nigerians into Africa’s most industrialised economy and the deportation of all illegal immigrants.

According to protesters, under the banner of #PutSouthAfricanFirst, the South African government has failed to put the country first, therefore, they are calling for the deportation of all illegal immigrants and revocation of grants and other state benefits.

The group, alongside other groups like South Africa First and Only One SA, have handed over a memorandum of demands at the Nigerian Embassy.

Action for change’s Nandi Gachwari said their demands were clear.

We demand an end to human trafficking in Pretoria and, broadly, South Africa; the deportation of all illegal immigrants; the exposure of corruption in flawed Home Affairs processes that grant citizenship to undeserving foreign nationals.

Nigerian High Commissioner to South Africa, Kabiru Bala, said he has accepted the memorandum but it was unfair that only Nigerians were being blamed for South Africa’s social and economic ills.
