The Nigerian Exchange (NGX) extended its recovery on Monday as selective buying in key equities added approximately N160 billion to investors’ wealth, helping the market build on the rebound recorded at the close of last week despite softer trading activity.
The NGX All-Share Index (ASI) advanced 0.10 percent from 243,052.74 to 243,299.24 points, while equity market capitalisation increased by approximately N160.26 billion from N157.587 trillion to N157.747 trillion.

Despite the positive market close, profit-taking persisted in several equities.
John Holt Plc led the losers’ chart with a 10.00 percent decline, followed by Ellah Lakes Plc and DAAR Communications Plc, both of which fell 9.80 percent. Regal Insurance Plc and Learn Africa Plc also recorded notable losses.
Trading activity presented a mixed picture.
While the number of deals increased by nearly 20 percent to 54,592, both turnover volume and value declined. Investors traded 428.97 million shares worth N20.52 billion, compared with 552.87 million shares valued at N25.78 billion in the previous session.
The increase in deal count alongside lower turnover suggests investors remained active but traded in smaller sizes or focused on lower-value transactions.
Banking and financial stocks continued to provide the bulk of market liquidity. Sterling Financial Holdings Plc led trading by volume with 78.05 million shares, while Access Holdings Plc recorded the highest transaction value among the day’s most actively traded stocks at N613.81 million.
Fidelity Bank Plc, Mutual Benefits Assurance Plc and Chams Plc also featured prominently on the activity chart.
Monday’s session indicates that buying interest is gradually returning to the market following last week’s broad-based selloff.
Although turnover softened, gains in selected equities were sufficient to lift the benchmark index and increase market capitalisation, suggesting investors are becoming more selective as they position for opportunities while remaining cautious about overall market conditions.
