FirstBank Takes Diaspora Banking Services to Maryland, Atlanta and Houston
FirstBank has announced plans to provide in-person banking services to Nigerians living in the United States through a summer outreach programme covering Maryland, Atlanta and Houston.
The initiative will allow existing and prospective customers to engage directly with the bank’s Diaspora Banking Team without travelling to Nigeria.
The first engagement will take place at the Courtyard by Marriott Silver Spring in Maryland from July 23 to July 26, 2026.
The team will subsequently operate from the Hilton Atlanta/Marietta Hotel and Conference Center between July 30 and August 2 before concluding the programme at Hilton Houston Westchase from August 6 to August 9.
FirstBank Offers BVN and Account Services
Nigerians attending the outreach can enrol for Bank Verification Numbers without paying a fee.
National Identification Number enrolment will also be available, although applicable processing charges will be paid by applicants.
Other services include opening FirstBank accounts, receiving payment cards immediately and reactivating dormant accounts.
Customers will also be able to resolve general banking enquiries and obtain support relating to their existing accounts.
The programme could assist Nigerians abroad who have been unable to complete identity verification or restore access to inactive Nigerian bank accounts because of documentation and physical-presence requirements.
Property Investment Support Available
FirstBank will use the engagements to introduce interested customers to property investment opportunities through its Home and Abroad platform.
The platform is designed to connect diaspora customers with property-related products while providing a formal banking channel for payments and investment support.
Nigeria’s diaspora market represents an important source of deposits, foreign-exchange inflows and investment capital for financial institutions.
Physical outreach programmes allow banks to strengthen relationships with customers who may otherwise rely entirely on digital platforms and third-party service providers.
The events could also support remittance flows by making it easier for Nigerians abroad to maintain verified local accounts and access formal financial products.
FirstBank said the programme would provide personalised support tailored to the banking needs of Nigerians living outside the country.
Prospective customers who do not currently operate a FirstDiaspora account can begin the account-opening process before attending any of the scheduled engagements.
