Dangote Denies Mass Sack at Refinery, Says Over 3,000 Still Employed
Dangote Petroleum Refinery has denied reports of mass sackings at its facility, stating that over 3,000 Nigerians continue to work actively within the refinery.
In a press statement issued on September 26, 2025, the company explained that the ongoing reorganisation is not arbitrary but necessary to safeguard the refinery from repeated acts of sabotage that have raised safety concerns and disrupted operations.
According to the management, the restructuring was carried out in the best interest of the refinery and the country, stressing that only a very small number of staff were affected.
The company added that recruitment remains ongoing through graduate trainee programmes and experienced hire placements.
“The decision was taken to protect this strategic national asset and ensure its long-term stability. It is imperative to safeguard the refinery for the benefit of Nigerians, our partners across Africa, and the thousands of people whose livelihoods depend on it,” the statement read.
Dangote also reaffirmed its adherence to internationally accepted labour principles, noting that every worker retains the right to decide whether or not to join a union.
The company emphasized that its commitment to workers’ rights remains unwavering.
The statement further highlighted that the refinery exists to serve Nigerians, strengthen Africa’s energy independence, and create decent, sustainable jobs.
Management assured that the company will continue to work with employees, regulators, and stakeholders to uphold the highest standards of safety, transparency, and accountability.
