TikTok, the short-form video platform owned by ByteDance, deleted over 3.6 million videos uploaded by Nigerian users in the first quarter of 2025 for breaching its community standards, according to its latest enforcement disclosure.

The volume of takedowns represents a sharp increase compared to the previous quarter, rising by approximately 50% from the 2.4 million videos removed in Q4 2024.

TikTok reported a proactive enforcement rate of 98.4% in Nigeria, indicating that nearly all flagged content was identified and removed before users lodged complaints.

Additionally, 92.1% of the violative videos were taken down within 24 hours of upload.

In March 2025, TikTok dismantled 129 accounts tied to covert influence campaigns across West Africa as part of its broader effort to combat disinformation and coordinated inauthentic behavior.

Globally, TikTok removed 211 million videos during the period under review, up from 153 million in the final quarter of 2024. More than 184 million of those were flagged through automated detection systems, pushing the global proactive enforcement rate to 99%.

The company also deleted 44.7 million comments generated by fake or automated accounts, targeting spam and artificial engagement.

TikTok said it remains committed to protecting platform integrity, stating that its systems are constantly under pressure from evolving threats and influence networks.

“We are focused on swiftly removing content and accounts that seek to mislead users or undermine trust in the platform,” the company noted.

The surge in enforcement underscores TikTok’s ongoing efforts to comply with global content moderation standards while maintaining trust among its user base in Nigeria and across the continent.
