Buhari’s Remains Arrive Umar Yar’adua Airport, Interment Follows in Daura
The body of former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari arrived at the Umar Musa Yar’adua Airport in Katsina State on Tuesday, ahead of burial arrangements in his hometown, Daura.
President Bola Tinubu personally received the remains, alongside state governors, ministers, members of the National Assembly, and senior government officials.
The Nigerian Air Force conveyed the casket from London, where the former president died on Sunday after an undisclosed illness.
Following a brief military ceremony, the remains were transported to Daura for funeral prayers and interment at the residence of the late president.
The Federal Government confirmed Buhari’s death and burial itinerary through a statement issued by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris.
According to the Minister, President Tinubu has constituted an Inter-Ministerial Committee chaired by Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, to coordinate burial proceedings in collaboration with the Buhari family and the Katsina State Government.
Condolence registers have been opened across all federal ministries, departments, agencies, and Nigerian embassies. Another register is available at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja.
Twenty-five ministers have been directed to remain in Daura for the third-day prayers scheduled for Wednesday.
Buhari, who previously served as military head of state between 1983 and 1985, returned to power as a democratically elected president in 2015 and completed two terms in 2023.
His leadership was marked by anti-corruption reforms, fiscal tightening, and security-focused governance.
Global leaders have continued to send official condolences in recognition of Buhari’s contributions to national and regional stability.
