The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Nigeria has partnered with cryptocurrency exchange Quidax to train finance professionals on digital assets as part of efforts to deepen market understanding of blockchain technology and its applications in Nigeria’s evolving financial landscape.

The capacity-building workshop brought together industry stakeholders, regulators and finance sector professionals to examine the opportunities and risks associated with blockchain and cryptocurrency adoption.

Speaking at the event, Ajibade Adewale of Wema Bank emphasised blockchain’s potential to transform value transfer systems, stating that the technology enables the instant and secure transfer of assets, a feature that holds significant promise for financial institutions, payment providers and businesses across various sectors.

The initiative aligns with SEC Nigeria’s broader agenda to enhance investor protection while fostering innovation and responsible adoption of emerging financial technologies.

By collaborating with a key industry player like Quidax, the Commission aims to bridge knowledge gaps and equip market participants with relevant insights to navigate the fast-changing digital asset ecosystem.

The workshop covered key areas including the fundamentals of blockchain, crypto asset trading, regulatory considerations, and practical strategies for integrating digital asset solutions into existing financial systems.

Participants also examined best practices for compliance, security, and safeguarding investor interests in line with global standards.

Quidax CEO Buchi Okoro described the partnership as timely, noting that increased awareness and capacity building are critical to unlocking the benefits of blockchain for Nigeria’s financial system.

He added that the exchange remains committed to supporting regulators in building a robust framework that balances innovation with market integrity.

The SEC reiterated its commitment to engage stakeholders through targeted education, policy development and collaborative initiatives that drive sustainable growth in the country’s capital market.

As Nigeria’s digital asset market continues to attract investor interest, industry experts have called for stronger cooperation between regulators, operators and financial institutions to establish clear guidelines, promote transparency and encourage responsible innovation in the sector.

The partnership between SEC Nigeria and Quidax is expected to catalyse more knowledge-sharing sessions and technical training aimed at equipping industry professionals with practical skills to navigate blockchain and crypto trends.
