MTN Nigeria Secures NCC Approval to Renew and Harmonise 800MHz Spectrum Licences

MTN Nigeria Communications PLC has received approval from the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) to renew and harmonise its spectrum licences in the 800MHz band.

The renewal grants MTN Nigeria an additional 10 years for its first 800MHz spectrum band licence (Channel 1) and extends its validity from January 1, 2025 to December 31, 2034.

Also, the NCC approved a four-year extension for the second 800MHz spectrum band licence (Channel 2), aligning its expiration with that of the first licence on December 31, 2034.

The harmonisation of the spectrum licences is expected to simplify future renewal processes and support MTN Nigeria’s long-term strategy for connectivity and service enhancement.

Commenting on the development, MTN Nigeria CEO Karl Toriola said, “We are pleased with the successful renewal and harmonisation of our 800MHz spectrum licences, which lay a solid foundation for the ongoing delivery of 4G services to our customers. This enables us to continue to meet the demand for data and is integral to our broader strategy for enhancing connectivity.”

The 800MHz spectrum band is critical for the provision of reliable 4G services, enabling high-speed internet access and better coverage.

This renewal and harmonisation ensure that MTN Nigeria remains equipped to meet growing data demands and provide improved service quality to its customers nationwide.

This strategic move reinforces MTN Nigeria’s commitment to advancing connectivity in line with its broader vision of digital inclusion and innovation.
