Lagos Fire Destroys FIIRO Assets, Emergency Teams Battle Blaze Into Boxing Day

Properties worth millions of naira have been destroyed in a midnight fire outbreak that occurred at the Federal Institute of Industrial Research (FIIRO) office near Cappa Bus Stop in the Oshodi area of Lagos State.

The raging fire, which broke out on Christmas Day, continued into Boxing Day on Thursday, December 26.

Rescue teams comprising officials from the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service and the Lagos State Emergency Management Authority (LASEMA) reportedly arrived at the scene around 4 a.m.

While no casualties have been reported, rescue operations are still ongoing at the site as of the time of filing this report.

In addition to the properties destroyed in the fire, other items, including documents and office appliances, were also damaged.

The cause of the fire remains unknown at this time, as neither LASEMA nor the fire service has issued an official statement on the incident.

This latest incident adds to the increasing number of fire outbreaks in the country, raising concerns among firefighters and other agencies tasked with managing such incidents.

Meanwhile, on December 7, the Federal Fire Service (FFS) called on Nigerians who applied for its 2024 recruitment process to visit the Board’s official website to check if their names appear on the final list of successful candidates and proceed to the next stage.

In a statement signed by the Secretary of the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire, and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB), Ja’afaru Ahmed, the FFS announced that successful applicants could access the website from Monday, December 9, 2024.

Ahmed advised successful candidates to print their invitation letters after confirming their names on the list.”
