Trump Appoints Stephen Miran to Lead Economic Council, Signals Pro-Crypto Stance

President-elect Donald Trump has appointed Stephen Miran, a former Treasury official from the previous Trump administration and current economist with Hudson Bay Capital Management, as the Chair of the Council of Economic Advisers.

Miran’s appointment is viewed as a significant move in support of cryptocurrency, as he will advise the president on economic issues, including analyzing global economic trends, evaluating the efficiency of federal institutions, policies, and programs, and offering recommendations to enhance growth and stability.

His appointment follows Trump’s nomination of major cryptocurrency proponents, such as Paul Atkins for the Securities and Exchange Commission and David Sacks as the incoming “Crypto Czar.”

Stephen Miran has consistently advocated for the acceptance and advancement of cryptocurrency in the global financial space, emphasizing the importance of positioning the U.S. at the forefront of digital innovation.

He has been openly critical of Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell’s regulatory approach, describing it as “wrong politically and economically.” This criticism stemmed from Powell’s urging of Congress to pass a stimulus bill in 2020.

In response to his appointment, Miran stated that he looks forward to implementing the president’s policies to create a “booming, non-inflationary economy” that benefits all Americans.

Similarly, Trump appointed former college football player and Republican House nominee Bo Hines as Executive Director of the Presidential Council of Advisers for Digital Assets, despite Hines having no prior history of cryptocurrency advocacy.

In a post on X, the President-elect tweeted that Hines would collaborate with other appointees, particularly the incoming “Crypto Czar.”

These pro-cryptocurrency moves by Trump indicate his commitment to making the U.S. the crypto capital of the world and embedding cryptocurrency into the core socio-economic fabric of American life.
