Imo Gov Unveils ₦756bn Budget of Expanded Economic Opportunities for 2025
The Governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodimma, has tabled a ₦756 billion budget titled the “Budget of Expanded Economic Opportunities” before the state’s House of Assembly for consideration and approval.
During the presentation of the Appropriation Bill for the 2025 fiscal year on Monday, December 23, 2024, Governor Uzodimma stressed that the budget would impact the education sector, reiterating his administration’s promise of delivering quality education to the people of the state.
With this budget, the Governor assured the lawmakers of his administration’s commitment to rehabilitating and expanding critical infrastructure to boost the state’s economy.
Uzodimma, who highlighted his administration’s achievements over the past five years, revealed that efforts to deliver a steady and uninterrupted power supply in the state are underway.
Uzodimma said, “There are ongoing efforts to rehabilitate and expand critical infrastructure especially the construction of rural roads across the three senatorial zones and ongoing work to provide a 24/7 electricity supply through the Imo State Electricity Distribution (ISED) project.”
Revealing plans for the education sector in 2025, the Governor said, “The government plans to hand over schools to religious institutions in 2025 as part of its strategy to improve the quality of education.”
The Governor mentioned that with the budget, his administration would ensure food security by developing farmlands, modernizing key markets, and revitalizing industrial hubs.
He said, “To enhance food security, the Achara Ugbu Farmland in Owerri North Local Government Area would be developed for large-scale agricultural production.
Our administration is committed to modernizing key markets, including Eke Ukwu Owerri Market, and revitalizing industrial hubs such as the Onitsha Industrial Layout, as well as similar layouts in Orlu and Okigwe.”
The governor urged members of the Assembly to prioritize the consideration and approval of the budget to enable his administration begin its implementation.
