The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has directed its Front End Partners and agents to desist from charging Nigerians for National Identification Number (NIN) enrollment, warning of strict sanctions for defaulters.
In a statement made available to Investors King on Friday, December 20, NIMC’s Head of Corporate Communications, Kayode Adegoke, advised Nigerians not to make payments to any staff during the enrollment process, emphasizing that the commission has not authorized such payments.
To enforce compliance with this directive, the commission warned that any Front End Partner or staff found engaging in this illegal activity would have their licenses revoked.
NIMC reiterated that NIN registration remains free of charge, stating, “The Commission does not charge nor authorize any staff or its Front End Partners to charge applicants for NIN enrollment.”
Adegoke added that NIMC is collaborating with security agencies to track and apprehend any staff or partners involved in such fraudulent practices.
According to the commission, the sanctions are in accordance with the law, reaffirming its commitment to delivering smooth and transparent services to Nigerians.
“Anyone caught will be sanctioned appropriately in line with the provisions of the law, and the license of such FEP will be withdrawn. We remain committed to providing seamless enrollment services while ensuring that applicants are not exploited,” the statement affirmed.
The Commission also urged Nigerians to report any staff or partners demanding payment for the enrollment process through its official channels, including email at customercare@nimc.gov.ng or by phone at 0700-225-5646.
