The Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos is set for transformation, with the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) and the United Bank for Africa (UBA) teaming up to give travelers a satisfactory flight experience.

In a statement signed by the Managing Director of FAAN, Olubunmi Kuku, and made available to Investors King on Friday, December 20, the airport authority said the renovation, mainly at the E-wing of the airport, reflects its commitment to satisfying customers.

She revealed steps taken by the company to ensure customer satisfaction, including expanding the airport facility, investing in cooling systems, upgrading equipment, and modernizing infrastructure.

She stressed that with these initiatives, members of the public would enjoy a standard flight experience.

Kuku assured aviation stakeholders that these investments would boost the country’s aviation sector to a global standard and also attract foreign investors.

The FAAN boss, who also took delivery of four long CNG-powered buses on behalf of the organization, called on stakeholders and Nigerians home and abroad, to support the aviation industry as it has great potential for economic growth.

She said, “You can see that we expanded our facilities for the future; hence the use of terminal 2. In addition, we are using terminal D right now and we are moving passengers in here so that we can potentially decongest.

“We are looking at our arrival time and slotting. That way, we are making effective use of the capacity of the terminal as well as the timing of flights arriving and landing.”

The minister for Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, who was recently commended by the Chief Executive Officer of Air Peace, Allen Onyenma, for his policies in the aviation sector, commended FAAN for the renovation.

According to him, the innovation would not just improve passengers’ experience but would also attract investors and allow economic development.

Giving a brief of the renovation, the minister said, “This remodelled E-Wing is an outcome of our collaboration with Hussling and UBA. The new design includes modern lighting, upgraded flooring, and more prominent advertising displays, all aimed at improving the passenger experience.

Revealing the next move targeted by the organization, he said: “This is just the beginning. Next, we will focus on other parts of the airport, including the D-Wing’s departure and arrival areas. While it was a joke, the message is serious. It’s about maintaining a good image for the country and its institutions. We have seen improvements and we are committed to continuing that progress.”

On further collaborations to strengthen the sector and foster growth, Keyamo submitted, “We are working closely with the National Security Adviser to ensure that the reforms we’ve initiated continue smoothly.

We’ve updated the NSA on the measures we’ve taken and have requested his support in ensuring that all agencies cooperate in the best interest of passengers and the nation’s image.”

Speaking on behalf of UBA, the General Managing Director, Oliver Alawuba, expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the project while thanking FAAN for allowing collaboration with the private sector.

He assured FAAN and the Minister of the bank’s continued support saying, “This is not just about bricks and mortar; it’s about creating an environment that catalyzes growth and unlocks opportunities across every sector of the economy.

“The private sector must step in, and UBA clearly provides that support needed at this time. This is just the first phase, as the minister noted.”
