Enugu Eyes Smart Schools by 2025 with N2bn Investment

The Governor of Enugu State, Peter Mbah has promised to build smart schools across the state by 2025 to help improve the education sector and enhance the quality of learning delivered to indigenes.

The Governor gave the assurance at a Town Hall meeting with residents while announcing a N2 billion donation to the Enugu State University for the upgrade of the institution’s Teaching Hospital and construction of a student hostels.

The Town Hall meeting, tagged; Governance Issues: The Journey So Far, held on Saturday, December 14, brought together relevant stakeholders, student unions, civic organizations, and residents of Enugu State who asked the Governor questions bothering on his visions for the state.

Governor Mbah explained that the N2 billion donation aligns with his administration’s commitment to delivering quality healthcare to students and addressing accommodation shortages in the institution.

According to the Governor, with his administration’s plan of building 17 smart green secondary schools, of which 245 of 260 are currently under construction across the state, serving nursery to junior secondary school 3 levels, the State’s education sector will experience significant transformation.

Mbah acknowledged education as the only way to shape the country insisting that his administration will continue to invest in the sector.

“We have dedicated one-third of our total budget in two consecutive years to education because we recognise that education shapes a country, and as a state, we will consistently invest in it,” he said.

On the benefits of his admiration’s investment in education, he remarked, “We may not be in government when the results materialise, as this is not about me but about our children and future generations.

“The contractors have been given a timeline to complete the 245 smart schools, and we are monitoring their progress,” Mbah added.

The Governor reaffirmed his commitment to improving the lives of the people of Enugu State, he concluded: Everything we have done is to provide our children with the best learning environment, equipped with technological tools.”
