Electricity Company Begins Free Meter Distribution To Band A Customers

In a bid to extend its market base and satisfy its customers better, the Yola Electricity Distribution Company is set to distribute no fewer than 1,880 prepaid meters to Band A customers in the region.

The commencement of the meter deployment is under the Meter Asset Funds Scheme.

Targeting only Band A customers who stopped receiving electricity subsidies in April, the company believes that the initiative will ensure accurate billing and improved customer satisfaction.

The announcement was made in a statement signed by the company’s Communications Officer, Blessing Tunoh and made available on Tuesday.

Under the Meter Acquisition Funds programme, Tunoh noted that the initiative targeted unmetered Band A customers within YEDC’s franchise area, adding that the development is part of the company’s ongoing efforts to provide accurate billing.

Tunoh stated that the distribution process has the backing of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission.

According to her, the items to be shared include 1,500 single-phase meters and 380 three-phase meters.

She said installation will be carried out by approved vendors from November 18 to November 30, 2024.

The MAF project was launched on June 13, 2024 and according to Tunoh, it forms part of the Presidential Metering Initiative, designed to accelerate nationwide metering for electricity consumers.

Reiterating the company’s willingness to install the meters at no cost to YEDC customers, Tunoh called on all Band A customers to cooperate with the installers visiting their homes and business premises during the metering exercise.
