The recently elected President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), MC Oluomo has been ousted following a ruling by the Nigerian Court of Appeal.

The court upheld an earlier decision by the National Industrial Court recognising Tajudeen Baruwa as the legally elected president of the union.

The conference that was held by delegates on October 25, 2023, which facilitated the election that produced MC Oluomo on November 9, 2024 was also declared null and void by the court.

According to the court of appeal, the election is illegitimate for not adhering to the constitution of NURTW and the previous judicial directives of the union.

Baruwa criticised the recent inauguration of MC Oluomo and labelled it as an affront to the judiciary.

He called on law enforcement to ensure the enforcement of the court’s decision, stressing the importance of adherence to the rule of law in the union’s governance.
