UBA Customers To Enjoy Discounts On Online Purchases With Newly Launched Mastercard Debit Card

Customers of the United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc can now enjoy discounts on their online purchases whenever they use a newly launched Mastercard debit card.

The bank, in collaboration with Mastercard, launched the debit card in celebration of its 75th anniversary.

According to UBA, the partnership with Mastercard aims to honour the bank’s long-standing customer relationships and enhance the banking experience with various offers and discounts across multiple platforms.

A statement by the bank after the unveiling ceremony quoted Oliver Alawuba, the group managing director (GMD) of the bank as saying that the debit card entails certain benefits aimed at rewarding customers, such as a limited 25 percent discount on purchases on Jumia and a $75 cash-back on transactions through AliExpress.

Alawuba explained that the initiative represents the shared vision between UBA and Mastercard towards empowering Africans by enhancing customer experience through secure and convenient transactions.

He added that the new card is part of the commitments of the bank in empowering millions of Nigerians and Africans, by providing them with access to secure transactions and new opportunities across the continent.

Expressing confidence at the workability of the card and its acceptability in Africa in years to come, Alawuba said the group is proud of its collaboration with Mastercard.

Mark Elliott, division president for Africa at Mastercard, while speaking at the unveiling ceremony of the debit card said the card signifies Mastercard’s support for Africa’s digital economy.

In partnership with UBA, Elliot mentioned that Mastercard is focused on delivering innovation to meet the evolving needs of the region, empowering individuals, and promoting digital growth across the continent.
