The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has confirmed that the fully automated passport application process will commence on January 8, 2024.

This announcement follows the minister’s earlier disclosure in December, where he highlighted the Federal Government’s commitment to streamlining and digitizing the passport application system.

During an inspection of the facilities at the Nigeria Immigration Service headquarters in Abuja, Minister Tunji-Ojo emphasized the revolutionary shift towards a touchless and efficient passport application experience for Nigerians.

The minister noted that the automation process, which is now “99% done,” will enable citizens to apply for and complete their passport applications online without the need for in-person interactions.

“We are good to go live. We are starting the training, and on January 8, the solution will be live and direct for Nigerians to have a good feel, a sweet experience based on the Renewed Hope of Mr. President,” stated Minister Tunji-Ojo.

The anticipated automated system is set to significantly reduce human contact in the passport acquisition process, aligning with global trends in digital services.

The minister assured citizens of a seamless and user-friendly experience, emphasizing the government’s commitment to enhancing service delivery and embracing technological advancements.

This groundbreaking initiative is part of broader efforts by the Federal Government to modernize administrative processes, improve efficiency, and provide citizens with accessible and convenient services.

The move towards a fully automated passport application system reflects Nigeria’s commitment to embracing digital transformation and leveraging technology to meet the evolving needs of its population.

As the January 8 launch date approaches, anticipation builds among Nigerians eager to experience the benefits of a streamlined and digitized passport application process.

The initiative not only marks a significant step towards enhancing government services but also underscores Nigeria’s commitment to harnessing innovation for the greater convenience of its citizens.
