Oando Clean Energy, the renewable energy arm of Oando Energy Resources, has proudly announced the acquisition and deployment of 50 state-of-the-art electric buses.

This strategic expansion underscores the company’s steadfast commitment to supporting the Federal Government’s initiatives in transitioning to cleaner and more environmentally friendly modes of transportation.

The momentous announcement, made at the prestigious Conference of the Parties (COP28) event in Dubai, builds upon Oando Clean Energy’s earlier commitment to delivering 50 electric buses to Lagos State.

With this latest development, the company’s total fleet contribution now stands at an impressive 100 electric buses, marking a substantial stride towards fostering eco-friendly transportation practices on a national scale.

The unveiling of these 50 new electric buses follows Oando Clean Energy’s sustainable transport initiative, which was initiated on May 24, 2023.

The initiative was inaugurated with a Proof-of-Concept collaboration with Lagos State, facilitated through the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority.

Speaking at a side event in the Nigeria pavilion, Ademola Ogunbanjo, the Executive Vice President of Oando Clean Energy, highlighted the successful completion of the 90-day Proof-of-Concept phase.

During this phase, two electric mass transit buses were deployed, covering over 43,800 kilometers across four routes, and serving more than 73,000 passengers.

The initiative resulted in significant savings of 21,000 liters of diesel and the mitigation of 57.8 tons of CO2 emissions within the state.

Ogunbanjo emphasized, “During the PoC, we rolled out two electric mass transit buses, and they ploughed four routes covering over 43,800 kilometres, carrying over 73,000 passengers, saving bus operators 21,000 litres of diesel and mitigating 57.8 tons in CO2 emissions within the state.”

Looking ahead, Oando Clean Energy’s sustainable transport initiative is set to progress into a pilot phase featuring 50 buses, with an ambitious target of 2,000 buses at full rollout for Lagos State.

Ogunbanjo noted, “On the back of the successful PoC and deliberations with several State Governments, OCEL will match the Federal Government’s commitment of 100 electric buses towards reducing the country’s carbon emissions.”

This signals a commendable alignment with broader environmental goals and a noteworthy contribution to Nigeria’s green and sustainable future.
