The Nigeria Customs Service, Seme Area Command, has announced the facilitation of N8 billion worth of export cargoes from September till date.
Timi Bomordi, the Customs Area Controller, revealed this accomplishment during a press briefing at the Seme command in Lagos on Tuesday.
During the stated period, the command oversaw the export of 41,867.88 metric tons involving 1,048 trucks, with the Nigeria Export Supervision Scheme contributing N42 million.
Also, surcharges for the same period amounted to N41 million, showcasing the command’s effectiveness in revenue collection.
Bomordi proudly declared that the Seme Area Command has surpassed its revenue target for the year 2023, highlighting their commitment to harnessing all revenue components.
The command set a target of N1.966 billion, and by the end of October 2023, it had collected an impressive N3.050 billion, exceeding the target by N1.084 billion, representing a remarkable 55.1 percent increase.
The success is attributed to strategic measures implemented by the command’s leadership, aimed at addressing revenue loopholes and fostering compliance in collaboration with stakeholders.
Alongside the positive achievements, Bomordi outlined various contrabands seized during this period, including prohibited live parrot birds, bags of rice, petroleum products, general merchandise goods, cannabis sativa, used vehicles, and live porcupines.
The duty paid value of the seized goods alone amounted to N326 billion.
Bomordi affirmed the commitment to encourage compliant traders while addressing challenges related to joint border patrols and ongoing talks at the highest levels to regularize the situation.
