Biden and Xi to Hold Bilateral Talks on Sidelines of APEC Summit in San Francisco
President Joe Biden is scheduled to engage in bilateral discussions with Chinese leader Xi Jinping on November 15 during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in San Francisco, Kyodo News reported.
Preparations are in their final stages for this face-to-face meeting, which marks the first in approximately a year for the two leaders, according to an unnamed senior US official cited by the Japanese news agency.
While China has not officially announced Xi’s attendance at APEC, the White House has confirmed the planned meeting.
In the lead-up to the summit, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi emphasized the need for a deliberate approach rather than relying on “autopilot” for such high-level encounters.
During his visit to the United States, Xi is expected to attend a dinner with prominent US business executives in San Francisco, with a key agenda of addressing concerns and uncertainties among foreign investors.
Western executives in China have grown increasingly apprehensive about the business environment due to various challenges, including geopolitical tensions, economic slowdown, and employee detentions.
