UBA’s Fraud Awareness Week Sparks Collaborative Efforts in the Fight Against Financial Fraud

The United Bank for Africa Plc (UBA) recently hosted a highly anticipated Fraud Awareness Week to empower customers with knowledge and tools to protect themselves from fraud and financial malpractices in the banking and financial sector.

Running from Monday, October 16th to Friday, October 20th, 2023, this event saw active participation from key stakeholders across the financial sector who expressed growing concerns about the escalating cases of financial fraud and the methods to combat this pressing issue.

Highlighting the importance of collective action, UBA organized a Stakeholders’ Round-Table panel session during the week.

Distinguished guest speakers at this event included Abbah Sambo Usman, Head of Cybercrime Investigation at the Economic & Financial Crimes Commission Lagos State Command; Akin Adesomoju, Managing Partner at Akin Adesomoju & Co; and other influential figures from the financial and law enforcement sectors.

The panelists collectively stressed the need for collaborative efforts involving banks, financial institutions, and agencies to provide the information, data, and intelligence required to detect gaps in the fight against fraud and prevent future occurrences.

UBA’s Group Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Oliver Alawuba, underscored the significance of the Stakeholders’ Round-Table session as a central component of UBA’s commitment to combat fraud and safeguard the integrity of the nation’s financial systems.

The event served as a platform for a constructive dialogue on bolstering security measures and enhancing the resilience of the financial sector against fraud and financial malpractices.
