Amazon has revealed its plans to launch Amazon.co.za in 2024, opening up a world of opportunities for South African-based sellers to expand their reach across the country.

Over 60% of Amazon’s sales come from independent sellers, primarily small and medium-sized businesses, offering a diverse product selection, competitive pricing, and unbeatable convenience for consumers.

Starting October 17, 2023, independent sellers in South Africa can begin registering their businesses on sell.amazon.com/south-africa.

Amazon also unveiled an innovative tool to assist sellers in crafting compelling product descriptions. Generative AI, powered by cutting-edge technology, aims to simplify the process of writing product listings, ensuring they engage potential buyers effectively.

Robert Koen, the general manager of Amazon’s Sub-Saharan Africa region, expressed his excitement about the forthcoming launch of Amazon.co.za, offering local entrepreneurs and businesses, both small and large, the chance to thrive in the e-commerce space.

South African entrepreneurs are equally thrilled. Nomaswazi Tinus, founder of African Mamas Crafts, sees the opportunity for growth by partnering with Amazon.

Meanwhile, Reader’s Warehouse, a business with a passion for books, eagerly anticipates expanding its e-commerce reach and accessing a broader customer base in South Africa through Amazon.

Amazon’s commitment to supporting sellers is further emphasized through a myriad of tools, programs, and educational content.

South African entrepreneurs can expect to receive invaluable guidance and support as they embark on their e-commerce journey, thanks to Amazon’s extensive resources and expertise.

With Amazon.co.za and generative AI, South Africa’s entrepreneurial landscape is on the brink of a transformative era, poised for substantial growth and economic prosperity.
