The Nigerian Postal Service Unveils N255 Commemorative Stamp to Mark Pan African Postal Union Tower Launch in Arusha, Tanzania

The Postmaster General of the Federation and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST), Sunday Adepopu, announced the release of a N255 commemorative stamp during the unveiling ceremony in Abuja, celebrating the inauguration of the Pan African Postal Union Tower in Arusha, Tanzania.

Dr. Thomas Gaja, Director of Planning and Development at NIPOST, represented Adepopu during the event. Adepopu highlighted the global significance of postage stamps, emphasizing their role as effective tools for conveying a country’s history.

He further underscored the essential role postage stamps play in a nation’s economy, serving as a critical infrastructure for development.

The Pan African Postal Union (PAPU) is responsible for coordinating postal development across the African continent, and the PAPU Tower, a newly constructed 17-story building, stands as a testament to Africa’s unity and progress.

Adepopu stated, “Today, we come together to celebrate the rich history, cultural heritage, and remarkable diversity of the African continent.”

“In collaboration with PAPU member states, NIPOST has released a unique postage stamp valued at N250, with an additional surcharge of N5. This African Joint Stamp Issue encourages all member states to incorporate an iconic emblem or national natural artifact of their choice in the stamp design, representing their respective countries.”

The Nigerian version of the commemorative stamp features the iconic Zuma Rock, juxtaposed against the magnificent PAPU Tower in Arusha, Tanzania.
