Sterling Holdco’s New GMD/CEO, Yemi Odubiyi, Invests N354 Million in Shares

The management of Sterling Financial Holdings Company Plc on Wednesday reported that the financial institution’s newly appoint General Managing Director (GMD) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Yemi Odubiyi has invested N354 million in the company.

In a disclosure signed by Company Secretary, Temitayo Adegoke and forwarded to the Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX), Mr Yemi Odubiyi bought 100 million shares at N3.54 a unit between 7th and 9th of August 2023.

Mr Yemi Odubiyi was appointed as GMD/CEO of Sterling Financial Holdings Company Plc about a month ago while Yemi Adeola became the new chairman of the financial company. Abubakar Suleiman and Shola Adekoya were moved to Non-Executive Directors.

Yemi Odubiyi Profile

Mr. Odubiyi embarked on his banking journey with the Nigeria division of Citibank, where he initially served as an Operations & Technology Generalist, contributing his expertise across all Operations and Technology functions.

His commitment led to his inclusion in the prestigious Management Associate program, during which he gained invaluable experience across key units of the Bank.

In 2003, he made a significant career move, leaving Citibank to join the turnaround team of the then Trust Bank of Africa, assuming the role of Head of Operations & Technology.

This pivotal role showcased his ability to drive positive change. Following the consolidation of Trust Bank into Sterling Bank Plc, Yemi emerged as the pioneer Group Head for Trade Services.

In 2008, he was entrusted with the task of establishing the Structured Finance Group, concurrently taking on the responsibility of overseeing corporate strategy as the Chief Strategy Officer.

From February 2015 to June 2023, Mr. Yemi Odubiyi held the position of Executive Director, Corporate and Investment Banking at Sterling Bank Limited, where he made significant contributions to the bank’s success.

His educational background includes a bachelor’s degree in Estate Management and a master’s in international law from the University of Lagos.

Over the years, he honed his skills through senior executive education programs in Risk Management, Finance, and General Management at prestigious international institutions such as the London and Harvard Business Schools.
