Lagos State Records Over 11 Million NIN Enrollments, Highest in the Country

In a remarkable achievement, Lagos State has emerged as the frontrunner in National Identification Number (NIN) enrollments, surpassing all other states in Nigeria.

The latest data from the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) reveals that over 11 million individuals in Lagos have successfully registered for their NINs, making it the highest figure recorded nationwide, Investors King gathered.

The data further elucidate that out of the 11 million NIN enrollments in Lagos State, approximately 4.99 million are females, while an impressive six million are males. This demonstrates a commendable level of participation from both genders, indicating widespread recognition of the importance of obtaining the NIN.

Lagos State, renowned for its bustling population and economic significance, has undoubtedly taken the lead in embracing this crucial initiative. A large number of NIN enrollments underscores the commitment of Lagosians to comply with the NIMC’s mandate and contribute to the creation of a robust and secure national identity system.

The Director-General of the NIMC, Aliyu Aziz Abubakar, lauded the exceptional progress made in Lagos State during a recent event held in Lagos. He emphasized the significance of the NIN as a foundation for digital transactions and financial services, driving sustainable development in the digital age.

While Lagos takes the lead in NIN enrollments, other states have also made significant strides in this nationwide initiative. Kano follows closely with 8.9 million NINs issued, comprising 3.8 million women and 5.1 million men. Kaduna ranks third with 6.2 million NINs, consisting of 2.8 million women and 3.46 million men. The impressive figures from these states highlight the widespread adoption of the NIN system across the country.

The NIMC continues to work diligently to provide every Nigerian with a unique national identification number and a digital identity card. This ambitious undertaking will enable citizens to access a wide range of services, including financial services, in a secure and convenient manner.

As Nigeria advances towards a digital economy, the significance of connectivity and high-speed internet cannot be overstated. Initiatives such as the National Broadband Plan and the licensing of new broadband providers have propelled the expansion of broadband assets across the nation. However, there is a pressing need to ensure affordable and reliable connectivity for all, particularly those in rural areas, to bridge the digital divide.
