Investors Extend Winning Streak as NGX ASI Increases by 0.31%

The Nigerian Bourse closed green amid activities of the market as bulls took control and raised the overall market by 31 basis points on 17th May 2023.

The All-share Index (ASI) increased by 0.31% to close at 52,580.86, representing a 1-week gain of 0.71%, a 4-week gain of 1.3%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 2.59%.

A total of 115 stocks listed on the NGX collectively traded during the day, with 29 gainers and 19 losers at the close. MRS, which saw its share price rise by 9.93% to close at N37.10 a share, was the biggest gainer. CHI led on the losing side with a 7.69% price decline at N0.60 per share at the day’s end.

The closing prices for NGX Banking, NGX Industrial, NGX Consumer Goods, NGX Oil and Gas, and NGX Insurance were +0.96%, -0.10, 1.09%, 1.09%, and +0.49%, respectively. The NGX Top 30, NGX Top 50 Index, NGX Pension Index also performed admirably.

The NGX closed the day’s trading session with a total of 680,796,099 shares exchanged in 6,666 deals, translating to a market value of N7,892,431,916.04. The numbers reveal an 18% increase in volume, a 16% increase in turnover, and a 9% increase in deals when compared to the previous NGX trading day.

Similarly, the current market capitalization of the Exchange stood at N 28.630 trillion.
