Meta-owned messaging platform Whatsapp has rolled out a feature that will enable users to use the same WhatsApp account on multiple phones.

According to WhatsApp, the new feature which is highly requested by users, has started rolling out globally and will be available to everyone in the coming weeks.

The company wrote via a statement,

“Today, we are improving our multi-device offering further by introducing the ability to use the same WhatsApp account on multiple phones. The feature will enable users to link their phone as one of up to four additional devices, the same as when they link with WhatsApp on web browsers, tablets, and desktops”.

To link their primary phone with other devices, users can proceed to WhatsApp settings and tap on “Link a device”, then they will be required to scan a QR code using the primary device. Once this is done, the device has been linked successfully.

With this feature, each linked phone connects to WhatsApp independently, ensuring that the user’s personal messages, media, and calls are end-to-end encrypted. WhatsApp further gave an important notice to users that if their primary device is inactive for a long period, they will be automatically logged out on all other commented devices.

Investors King understands that before the rollout of this feature, in 2021, WhatsApp began testing multi-device compatibility with select beta users. The following year, WhatsApp rolled out its multi-device feature for all, but it didn’t support multiple phones.

WhatsApp has continued to roll out new features to enhance its user’s experience. The app has no doubt emerged as the go-to messaging app for over 1.6 billion consumers around the globe.

It offers users a fast, simple, and convenient way for them to easily connect with their family and friends, through video calls, group texts, sharing of photos and videos, sending and receiving documents, etc.
