MultiChoice Nigeria, the pay-TV operator, has announced that it will be implementing a price increase on its DStv and GOtv packages due to economic challenges impacting its business operations.

The company, which offers a range of entertainment packages to subscribers across Nigeria, released an internal memo stating that the upward review of prices is necessary to continue providing quality services to customers.

The new prices for MultiChoice Nigeria’s DStv and GOtv packages will take effect from May 1, 2023. The monthly subscription for the Premium package will be increased to N24,500, up from the previous N21,000.

However, customers who renew their subscription before the deadline of April 30 can keep the old rate for up to 12 months.

Under the new price regime, subscribers of the DStv Compact+ bouquet will now pay N16,600 instead of the previous N14,250, while those on the Compact bouquet will pay N10,500 as against N9,000.

Similarly, subscribers on the Confam package will pay N6,200, up from N5,300.

The GOtv Supa package will now cost N6,400, while subscribers on the GOtv Max package will pay N4,850 instead of N4,150. For GOtv Jolli package, the price has increased from N2,800 to N3,300, while that of the GOtv Jinja and GOtv Lite will rise from N1,900 to N2,250 and from N900 to N1,100 respectively.

MultiChoice Nigeria had previously implemented a price increase in September 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic, with the monthly price of the Premium package increasing from N16,200 to N18,400.

The prices of other higher packages, such as Compact Plus and Compact, were also affected, with subscribers asked to pay N12,400 and N7,900, respectively.

However, to provide relief to its customers from the recession in Q4 of 2020 and the impact of the pandemic, MultiChoice Nigeria later slashed its prices on February 1, 2021.

The DStv HD decoder, dish kit with the Compact package subscription dropped from N18,600 to N9,900 on the Confam package, while the GOtv decoder, GOtennae with the GOtv Jolli package subscription went from N8,400 to N6,900.

Despite the rate increases, MultiChoice Nigeria has made a price lock offer to subscribers who renew their subscriptions before their due dates. This offer will allow customers to pay the old rates for 12 months if they pay before the deadline.

The price hike on the DStv and GOtv packages is expected to affect millions of subscribers across Nigeria, who rely on these services for their entertainment needs.

It remains to be seen how this move will impact MultiChoice Nigeria’s business operations and the loyalty of its customers.
