Google’s AI ChatBot Bard Undergoes Major Ugrade to Enhance User’s Experience

Recent reports reveal that giant tech company Google has improved several features on its AI chatbot Bard, to enhance users’ experience.

In an effort to rival its major competitor ChatGPT, the tech giant has optimized Bard’s responses in some areas and made refinements to the chatbot’s abilities in mathematics and logic.

Google also relied on the advances of the pathways Language model (paLM), a more advanced linguistic model than LaMDA, the model that drives Bard. With its 540 billion parameters, paLM is expected to offer more relevant answers.

The tech giant has been carrying out a series of upgrades lately on its chatbot with a slow roll-out after its parent company Alphabet lost more than $100 billion in market value after a Bard ad showed inaccurate information.

In the ad, Bard is given the prompt: “What new discoveries from the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) can I tell my 9-year-old about?”

Bard responded by suggesting that the JWST was used to take the very first pictures of a planet outside the Earth’s solar system or exoplanets which were inaccurate, as the first pictures of exoplanets were taken by the European Southern Observatory’s Very Large Telescope (VLT) in 2004, as confirmed by NASA.

Ever since, Google has been scrambling to correct the error. A spokesperson at the company disclosed that the error highlighted the importance of a rigorous testing process, something that the company is currently doing with its Trusted Tester program. Google is combining external feedback with its internal testing to make sure Bard’s responses meet a high bar for quality, and safety, and is well grounded in real-world information.

For now, Bard remains an experimental product only accessible in the United Kingdom and the United States as Google does not yet consider it a finished product.

Google introduced Bard on February 7th, 2023, with the intention of competing with OpenAI’s popular language model ChatGPT-3. With OpenAI’s recent release of ChatGPT-4, Investors King understands that Google is speeding up the development of Bard, as recent reports revealed that the company’s employees are testing a better version named “Big Bard”.
