Former employees at Twitter have recently disclosed that the company’s CEO Elon Musk is secretly advancing an Artificial Intelligence (AI) project at the San Francisco-based company.

Sources familiar with the story reveal that Musk has purchased thousands of powerful, expensive computing processors and has hired engineering talent that is working on an Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology that will be able to generate written content.

The sources who pleaded anonymity disclosed that whatever Musk is working on involves a large language model (LLM) which is currently in its early stages. They further added that his recent purchases signify that he is committed to the project.

Musk presumed commitment to an Artificial Intelligence project at Twitter is coming after the billionaire entrepreneur alongside several other tech leaders which includes Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak called for a pause on the dangerous race to develop AI which they suggest poses a serious risk to society and humanity.

In an open letter, Musk and these leaders argued that humankind does not yet know the full scope of the risk involved in advancing the technology. They, therefore, urged all AI labs to stop developing their products for at least six months, while more risk assessment is done. In case any lab refuses to take heed to the plea, they want governments to step in.

Investors King understands that Musk, who is an astute entrepreneur, innovator and lover of technological advancements in general, recently asked companies and individuals pushing hard to advance Artificial Intelligence (AI) in order to allow regulators to develop effective laws to regulate its excesses.

The Twitter CEO first expressed his concern for AI in 2014, describing it as “humanity’s biggest existential threat”, stating that it could be more dangerous than nuclear weapons. At the time, he revealed that he was investing in AI companies not to make money but to keep an eye on the technology in case it gets out of hand.

Musk’s main fear is that if AI gets in the wrong hands with its rapid advancement, it could overtake humans and spell the end of mankind.
