Peak Milk Apologizes to Christian Association of Nigeria for Controversial Social Media Post

The producer of Peak Milk, FrieslandCampina WAMCO Nigeria PLC, has issued a public apology to the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) for a controversial social media post that was deemed offensive to the Christian faith.

This unexpected move came as a surprise to many and has garnered attention from both the media and consumers alike.

The letter of apology, addressed to the CAN President, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, was written by Ore Famurewa, Executive Director (Corporate Affairs) on behalf of the company. The letter, titled ‘APOLOGY FOR THE GOOD FRIDAY SOCIAL MEDIA POST BY THE PEAK BRAND’, was dated 10th April, 2023.

The post in question was shared on the official social media accounts of the Peak brand on Good Friday and caused a major uproar among Nigerians, especially Christians who believed that the post not only disrespected their faith but also disrespected the millions of Christians in Nigeria and beyond.

In the apology letter, FrieslandCampina WAMCO Nigeria PLC acknowledged the hurt caused by the offensive post and expressed deep regret for any offense or harm caused to the Christian community.

The letter stated, “On behalf of FrieslandCampina WAMCO Nigeria PLC, I would like to express our sincere apologies to the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and the Christian community as a whole for the recent Good Friday social media post on the Company’s Social Media Handle.

“We are aware of the sensitivity of the social media post given the solemnity of the occasion. It was never our intention to undermine the significance of the season or to overly exploit the unparalleled sacrifice of Jesus Christ.

“We would like to inform the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) that the social media post has been removed.”

Furthermore, the company has assured the public that it would take necessary steps to ensure that such an incident never occurs again in the future.

The apology has been praised by many as a step in the right direction and a demonstration of corporate accountability.

This event should serve as a wake-up call for other companies to be more aware of the impact of their actions and communications on different communities and to take responsibility for any harm caused.
