FG Begins Construction of New Electricity Substation, Projects 25,000MW Transmission Capacity in 2025

In order to increase Nigeria’s power transmission capacity for better electricity distribution, the federal government has embarked on the construction of a 2×30/40MVA, 123/33kv electricity substation with six feeders.

Investors King reports that the new electricity substation will elevate the country’s transmission capacity to 25,000 megawatts by 2025.

Presently, the nation’s power transmission capacity is around 7,500 megawatts and 8,000 megawatts, while the national grid has been generating between 4,000 megawatts and 5,000 megawatts for several years, Investors King has gathered.

The new 2×30/40MVA, 123/33kv transmission substation with six feeders is situated at Ididep, Ibiono Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.

In a statement signed by the Minister of State for Power, Goddy Jedy-Agba, in Abuja on Wednesday, the new project was designed to also improve the operation of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).

Jedy-Agba stated that the construction will run for 18 months counting from the approval date, after which the project will be delivered for operation.

The Minister noted that the Federal Ministry of Power collaborated with the Transmission Company on the project for improved power supply in the country and to empower the national grid.

He said, “the new transmission project will strengthen the national grid by increasing its wheeling capacity to 25,000MW by 2025.”

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Emmanuel Udom, speaking at the flag-off event appreciated the federal government for fulfilling its campaign promise to the state.

Udom, who was represented by the Commissioner of Power and Petroleum, James Etim, assured the federal  government of the state support for the actualisation of the project.

In his remarks, the Director of Transmission, TCN, Nosike Emmanuel, enjoined the Akwa Ibom state government and citizens of the state to cooperate with the transmission company and its officials, providing needed assistance for a smooth construction process.
