The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC in Oyo State has reiterated its readiness to conduct credible elections in the state.

This is as the Oyo State Resident Electoral Commissioner of the INEC, Adeniran Teller stated that cash had been made available to the commission by the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN amidst naira scarcity to adequately prepare for the elections.

Investors King reports that the Oyo REC stated these during a programme organised by the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Oyo State Council on Tuesday.

Giving more details on the election data, the INEC official said there are 6,390 designated polling units in the state while the number of eligible voters is over two million in the state.

He, however, frowned at the number of uncollected Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) in the state which is about 760,766.

Notwithstanding, the REC said the electoral body was set to ensure a free, fair and acceptable election in Oyo state.

He charged all eligible voters to exercise their voting right during the elections, admonishing them to be peaceful and orderly while the electoral process is ongoing.

“I have the opportunity to tell you the level of our preparedness. The level of our preparedness has reached an advanced state in all stages. This is also an opportunity for us to again come out and talk to you.

“Total number of polling units 6,390. Registered voters in Oyo state: 3,276,675. Total PVCs collected are 2,305,903 while 760,766 are yet to be collected. As long as you have your PVC, come out to vote during the elections. So, we are trying to put our heads together,” the Oyo REC said.
