Tech company Microsoft has disclosed it is currently in talks with ChatGPT-maker, OpenAI, to invest an additional $10 billion as it seeks to dominate the search engine space.

The recent deal marks the third phase of Microsoft’s growing partnership with OpenAI, which the tech company described as a “multiyear, multibillion-dollar investment”. Recall that Microsoft invested in the company in 2019 and 2021.

Microsoft CEO Satya Narayana Nadella via a blog post disclosed that the partnership with OpenAI was to advance groundbreaking independent AI research and democratize AI as a new technology platform.

In his words,

“We formed our partnership with OpenAI around a shared ambition to responsibly advance cutting-edge AI research and democratize AI as a new technology platform. In the next phase of our partnership, developers and organizations across industries will have access to the best AI infrastructure, models, and toolchains with Azure to build and run their applications.”

Also, speaking on its partnership with Microsoft, OpenAI boss Sam Altman stated that the three-year partnership with the tech company has so far been great, adding that his startup is ecstatic to continue its independent research and work toward creating advanced AI that benefits everyone.

Investors King understands that Microsoft’s partnership with OpenAI ChatGPT was necessitated to give the platform access to some of the most popular and advanced artificial intelligence systems, as it competes with the likes of Google, Meta, etc to dominate the search engine space, as well as dominate the fast-growing technology that generates text, images, and other media in response to a short prompt.

Recall that the ChatGPT which was rolled out last year has become a viral sensation as many tech executives and venture capitalists seek to invest in it, which has also seen people use it to carry out different tasks.

The bot is capable of responding to queries in a natural and human-like manner, carrying on a conversation and answering follow-up questions, unlike the basic list of blue links that a Google search provides.
