Due to Circumstances Beyond Control, Twitter Third Party Apps Forced to Shut Down

Twitter third-party apps have been forced to shut down, citing circumstances beyond their control.

The shutdown is coming after social media platform Twitter updated its developer terms agreement, enforcing its longstanding API rules, which prohibits third-party apps from using, accessing, or attempting to create a substitute or similar service or product to Twitter applications.

Following Twitter’s change in its development terms agreement, it has spurred both popular third-party apps Tweetbot and Fenix to remove their apps from the AppStore.

In a recent Tweet, Tweetbot maker Tapbots wrote, “Say goodbye to Tweetbot. We’ve been proud to serve you over the last 12 + years, but due to circumstances beyond our control, we have to shut down Tweetbot. Thank you so much for your patience and outpouring of support over these tough times at Tapbots”.

Also, Twitterrific, disclosed the removal of its iOS and Mac apps from the App Store, while a ton of other third-party apps have begun to remove or are preparing to remove their apps from different app stores.

Recall that last week, users of third-party Twitter Apps expressed concerns after they were faced with the problem of logging into the platform to access their Twitter feeds.

This prompted developers of these apps to reach out to Twitter to understand what went wrong, but Twitter failed to respond or even address the issue.

Due to Twitter’s silence and failure to address the whole problem, these developers suggested that Twitter deliberately restricted access to the platform, not until it released the update of its developer terms of the agreement.

Twitter has long been permissive of third-party apps until Musk took over as the CEO of the company which he has been carrying out a series of revamps that has seen him shutter several developer-related projects.

Investors King understands that developers of these apps are heartbroken by Twitter’s recent move, because the pro and premium Subscription to these apps contributed to their income, unfortunately, it is gone.
