Nigeria Customs Realises N7bn Revenue From Lagos Airport in 100 Days
This represents an increase of 3.2 percent when compared with the same period in 2021
Nigeria Customs has said it generated N7 billion in revenue from the Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos in the last 100 days.
This represents an increase of 3.2 percent when compared with the same period in 2021, Investors King learnt.
While speaking to journalists on the revenue profile of the command, the Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Mohammed Malami Gidado, noted that N6.76 billion was collected within the same period in 2021.
Gidado disclosed that there has been a steady increase in revenue at the airport since he took over on the 15th of August, 2022.
“After taking over the mantle of leadership of the Command, the command is gradually recording a greater success to the glory of God Almighty,” he said.
The area controller added that the command recorded a significant increase in revenue generated in November 2022 when compared with November 2021.
He said, ‘the month of November is another productive month in the annals of the command as the command generated N1,959,471,750.19 only as revenue.
“In this November review, the command recorded a significant increase of N350,535,076.24 only in the revenue collected compared to that of October this year”.
He further noted that the command has been diligent in areas of interception of contrabands, examination of travelers and their baggage, cargo, and mails; assessment and collection of Customs duty, among others.
While appreciating MMIA Nigeria Customs for honoring him with the “Excellence in Diligence Merit Award” for his operations in the command, he thereafter urged all the sister agencies at the MMIA to collaborate with the service toward blockage of all possible avenues that may result in revenue leakages.
Meanwhile, in a similar development, the Oyo/Osun area command of the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) also disclosed that it has raked in N65 billion in one year.
While highlighting some of the achievements of the command, the area controller, Babajide Jayeola noted that the command exceeded her revenue collection of 2021 with N8.5 billion representing a 15.04 percent increment.
