The Federal Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Microsoft Corporation, to train five million Nigerians on high-demand digital skills.

The MOU which was signed on the sideline of the GITEX Global 2022 currently taking place at the Dubai World Trade Center is aimed to make more Nigerians fit into the digital marketplace. The Memorandum of Understanding  (MOU) was signed by the Minister of communication and Digital Economy, Prof Isa Pantami, who represented Nigeria at the event.

Investors King learnt that the GITEX Global 2022 is the world’s largest tech show which brings tech executives and important stakeholders together.

GITEX 2022 is the 42nd edition of the conference and this year’s edition scheduled between 10th and 14th of October in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has registered more than 5,000 exhibitors.

According to the Ministry of Communication and Digital Economy, the Memorandum of Understanding is in line with the country’s digital policy and strategy.

Speaking on behalf of Microsoft, Dean Yusuf and Olatomiwa Williams said this journey has been on for a while and it is gratifying to see it come to such an amazing point of signing the MoU.

The ministry added that the Minister also led a Nigerian delegation to hold a meeting with another tech giant, Oracle on how to deepen collaboration with Nigeria in the area of digital transformation and economy.

It will be recalled earlier this year, the Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, Prof Isa Pantami said that the ministry will prioritise digital literacy and skill acquisition as a way to tackle youth unemployment in Nigeria.

The Minister maintained that there was a major gap between what the youths are learning at the schools and the tangible skills required to flourish in the workplaces and industries.

He further stated that the ministry and all its parastatals will roll out several capacity-building programmes to equip the youth with the prerequisite skills needed to navigate and flourish in the digital space.
