Automotive company Tesla has disclosed plans to have thousands of Humanoid robots working in its factory.

These robots will operate via artificial intelligence designed by the same team that has worked on the company’s Autopilot self-driving software.

According to the company, this type of robot which is named ‘Optimus’, would be able to take on any task that a human currently has to do.

It further disclosed that the first version of Tesla Bot will be focused on completing simple repetitive tasks, which will make the robot useful in a factory setting.

In a job listing for “Motion Planning & Navigation, Tesla Bot”, Tesla reveals it plans to use thousands of Humanoid Robots within its factories.

The job listing reads, “Tesla is on a path to build humanoid bi-pedal robots at scale to automate repetitive and boring tasks.

“Core to the Tesla Bot, the motion planning stack presents a unique opportunity to work on state-of-the-art algorithms for motion planning and navigation culminating in their deployment to real-world production applications.

“Our motion planning software engineers develop and own this stack from inception to deployment. Most importantly, you will see your work repeatedly shipped to and utilized by thousands of Humanoid Robots within our factories.”

The company is actively ramping up plans to develop the Tesla Bot, as revealed by internal activity as well as hiring for about 20 positions.

The initial prototype of the Tesla Bot is expected to be revealed at the end of the coming week during Tesla’s AI Day on September 30th.  However, a dormant version was displayed last year and measured in at around 5’8” and 127 pounds.

Recall that in August 2021, at AI Day, Tesla CEO Elon Musk unveiled a humanoid robot, while disclosing that it would be a general-purpose machine that would perform a wide range of tasks. “Ultimately, the optimus will be able to do everything that people do not want to do”, he said.

Musk further explained that Optimus has the potential to become more significant than the vehicle business over time.
