Tobi Amusan Breaks Commonwealth Record

Tobi Amusan, the Nigerian world record holder in 100m hurdles, has broken the commonwealth games record with a 12.30s run in Birmingham, United Kingdom on Sunday.

Tobi entered the race with a 12.12s world record set in Oregon, U.S just three weeks ago. The 25-year-old Nigerian ran 12.40s to dominate Round 1 Heat 3 to qualify for the finals.

On Sunday, she ran a massive 12.30s to lead the two Jamaicans, Australian, England, and other athletes that participated in the race.

Amusan began the 2022 season in fine form, winning the 2022 Diamond League event in Paris, where she set an African record by 0.01s with a time of 12.41s.

She followed that up with another great performance when she won the gold medal in the 100m hurdles at the 2022 African Championships in Mauritius, defending her title successfully with a time of 12.57s. She also competed in the women’s 4×100m and won gold.

Amusan is now the world’s record holder, commonwealth games record hold, Africa’s record holder and Nigeria’s record holder.
