Ellah Lakes, Presco, FBN Holdings, Others Top Gainers as Investors Rake in N154 Billion

Stocks of Ellah Lakes, Presco, FBN Holdings and others led gainers to sustain the Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX) on Wednesday following a positive close on Tuesday.

Activity level surged at the Exchange as investors exchanged 229,366,382 shares worth N3.197 billion in 4.536 transactions during the trading hours of Wednesday, against 166,969,136 shares valued at N2.739 billion that exchanged hands in 4,398 transactions on Tuesday.

Oando led the most traded equities with 34,464,387 shares worth N184,977,481.78, while FCMB was the second most traded stock with 26,198,800 shares valued at N91,683,258.03.

Breaking down each sector, the NGX banking index declined by 5.94% on a negative close in the value of Fidelity Bank, Sterling Bank and Zenith Bank stocks. The decline was despite Unity Bank and Jaiz Bank posting 4.26% and 4.21% gains, respectively.

Also, the oil and gas index shed 19 basis points on a 1.38% decline in the worth of a unit Oando share.

Similarly, the industrial index dipped by 28 basis points as BUA Cement lost 3.16% on Wednesday even though Wapco and Dangote Cement returned 1.89% and 1.85% respectively.

However, the consumer goods index was the only gainer, appreciating by 14 basis points.

The NGX All-Share Index appreciated by 0.56% to 51,377.21 index points, up from 51,091.75 index points recorded on Tuesday. Again, the market value of listed equities appreciated by N154 billion from N27.544 trillion achieved on Tuesday to N27.697 billion.

On Wednesday, a total of 18 stocks closed in the green, against 16 stocks that closed in the red. While the Exchange year-to-date return improved to 20.28% from 19.61%. See other details of top gainers and losers below.
