Nigerian Stock Market Pared Losses on Tuesday

The Nigerian stock market rebounded on Tuesday following days of losses cumulating to N1.318 trillion in the last seven days.

Stock investors exchanged 166,969,136 shares worth N2.739 billion in 4,398 transactions during the trading hours of Tuesday, against a total of 345,004,508 shares worth N3.073 billion that exchanged hands in 5,075 transactions on Monday.

Analysing each sector shows the banking index appreciated by 38 basis points on the back of positive close in Union Bank of Nigeria, 0.64% decline in stock of Sterling Bank and 0.63% depreciation in Wema Bank.

Similarly, the industrial index appreciated by 386 basis points on 8.30% and 0.84% gain in Dangore Cement and Cutix, respectively. Wapco shed 0.38%.

Oil and gas index extended its yearly gain by 68 basis points to 58.03% from 56.96% recorded on Monday as Oando and Seplat did 5.09% and 0.04% gain, respectively.

Consumer goods index dipped by 11 basis points as Nascon plunged by 8.56%.

The market capitalisation of all listed equities appreciated by N181 billion from N27.363 trillion it closed on Monday to N27.544 trillion on Tuesday. While the Nigerian Exchange Limited All-Share Index rose to 51,091.75 index points from 50,756.74 index points it settled on Monday.

The Exchange year-to-date return improved from 18.82% on Monday to 19.61%. See other details below.
