The National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC) has announced plans to partner with a United Arab Emirates (UAE)-based company to manufacture locally-made solar tractors for farmers.

The Director-General (DG) of NADDC, Jelani Aliyu, revealed this after speaking on a panel at the Electric Vehicle Innovation Summit (EVIS), which took place in Abu Dhabi, UAE, from May 23 to May 25.

Mr Aliyu stated they have begun talks with an automobile firm for the production of solar-powered tractors in Nigeria. He explained that when the cars are produced locally, they will be made available to farmers at a reduced price.

According to him, the initiative will help the country’s food production and sufficiency.

The DG also discussed Nigeria’s present e-mobility successes and the sector’s significant potential in Nigeria and Africa at large.

Investors King gathered that the DG also paid a visit to the Nigerian Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates, Mohammed Dansatta-Rimi, during the summit and was commended for his efforts in developing the automotive industry in the country.

While appreciating Mr Aliyu for his visit, the Ambassador asked the director-general to keep Nigeria working to become Africa’s epicenter for vehicle manufacturing.

Researchers, engineers, government officials, and EV-related organizations and institutions from around the world gathered at the summit to study and discuss e-technical, mobility policy, and market achievements and potentials.

The National Automotive Design and Development Council’s vision is to transform Nigeria into a modern industrialized nation and our mission is to design and implement policies, programmes and strategies for an effective, competitive and diversified private sector.

The Council supports research work aimed at advancing the frontiers of technological development in the sub-sector.
